His body was bought by the Spanish (I think) ambassador, sewn together and parboiled, to preserve it. It was then taken abroad to Douai, where it stayed until being brought to the Cathedral in 1930.

I have seen photographs of the body under the mask and robes - the sewing is clearly visible on the eviscerated body, and it is a very gruesome sight.Mark Langhamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05040760021187483441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115875609078917723.post-37401990125298787312007-06-30T13:23:00.000+00:002007-06-30T13:23:00.000+00:00Monsignor,I'm puzzled, I thought St. John was hang...Monsignor,

I'm puzzled, I thought St. John was hanged, drawn, and quartered. If his body's intact, obviously he was spared the latter two.

Can you tell us why?

Thanks,

Jon
Lancaster, PA, USAAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115875609078917723.post-64772555286802193562007-06-28T20:03:00.000+00:002007-06-28T20:03:00.000+00:00Thank you for these photos.
