There is a lovely atmosphere in the Cathedral during this Christmas season, and I enjoy the calmness of the great church - with many visitors simply walking around, or sitting silently. There is a sense, as ever, of prayerfulness and repose.
Today was my first ever visit to the Cathedral. I am currently going through RCIA, and after reading this blog I was inspired to visit. I have to say the cathedral is beautiful. Mass today was moving, I find it hard to find good in the slaughter of all those children so long ago. I saw the statue of St Peter, the same as the one in St Peters Basilica. The main difference being the St Peter in Westminster has toes! The right foot of the statue in Rome has been rubbed so often the toes have worn away! I'll come again, soon. Keep up the good work on the blog, I really enjoy reading here.
Westminster Cathedral is the mother church of the Roman Catholic community in England and Wales. This extraordinary house of God was opened in 1903, and its distinctive Byzantine architecture provides the visitor with what Sir John Betjeman called "a series of surprises".
