Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

The beautiful statue of Our Lady in the Cathedral sacristy heralds this feast, and beginning of a new year. The first day of 2007 has dawned clear and bright, adding to our hopes and prayers for our world, and ourselves, in the coming months.

Fr Michael Archer celebrated the 10.30 Mass, with a good number of worshippers and visitors.

Dear Father Mark

Could you give me any information on the beautiful statue of Our Lady which you show as standing in the sacristy. I seem to remember a Christmas card produced a few years back and sold in the shop. Are there any current reproductions of this statue available - the one I have, which I have kept in my breviary for a long time now is getting very dog-eared! What I love about it, is Our Lady's expression - she seems to be looking into the future, but just look at the Child, relaxed, asleep, hanging on to his cross but seeming to say, 'Don't worry, I accept it all, but meanwhile, just stay close by and be a Mother'
