Dressed for the Dedication
The next in the extraordinary series of Feasts that we celebrate at this time of year is the Dedication of the Cathedral - our dedication is to the Most Precious Blood of our Saviour. A welcome feature is the appearance of these magnificent consecration sconces.
I like to think that they draw upon the notion of the 12 apostles as pillars of the Church, each apostle reaching out of the fabric of the Cathedral to offer light and protection (there is more than a hint of a sword in the sconces). The Consecration of the Cathedral atually took place on 28 June 1910, and I shall include a post about it later this week.
The Blessed Sacrament Chapel was looking espeically lovely this morning. Fr Christopher, Prefect of the Sacristy, had found a beautiful tabernacle veil I had not seen before. Most fitting for this great Feast. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

It is a beautiful veil, but shouldn't it be red for the Precious Blood?
