An Ancient Crime

It is one of the oldest crimes directed at churches - stealing lead from the roof. Yesterday we suffered the loss of lead roofing (and damage to other panels) in Vaughan House, the curial offices situated next to the Cathedral.

The roof here is situated on Francis Street, which even at night is a very public place - the thieves were bold indeed. The remaining lead has now been removed, and the roof space covered with tarpaulin while we consider what to do.
