Archbishop Tutu at the Cathedral

We were privileged last Wednesday to welcome Archbishop Desmond Tutu to the Cathedral, where he received an honorary Fellowship of the Guild of Church Musicians. While Archbishop Tutu joked that he 'cannot sing a note', Cardinal Cormac spoke to him of the 'harmony of peace and reconciliation in your life.'

The Archbishops' Certificates are awarded annual by the Archbishops of Westminster and Canterbury on behalf of the Guild of Church Musicians to those who have made an outstanding contribution in Church leadership or theology.

I wonder if this is the first time an anglican bishop has worn a zucchetto within Westminster Cathedral...
Marvellous!

The Archbishop's Certificates are awarded following examinations and essays and portfolios to active church musicians, organists, choirmasters and singers. The fellowship can also be taken by exam,as was one on Wednesday, but the others were honorary ones for special service.

I'm told Archbishop Tutu went off with the certificate belonging to Alison who passed her Archbishops' Certificate in church music and it will have to be sent back from South Africa!
