We Will Remember Them

For Catholics, 'remembering' has a special meaning. It is not merely casting our minds back to the past, but bringing the past (and those who have died in the past) into the present; for we believe that those who die yet live with God. For that reason, our Churches are not cluttered with monuments to past glory, but with exhortations to prayer for the souls of the dead - while recalling with gratitude their tremendous sacrifice.

Westminster Cathedral has few war memorials, but it does has some. It is appropriate that, praying for the repose of their souls, we should also remember the sacrifice of those who died that we might be free, and that our values might endure in the world.
