The Choir in Rome

Following the recent post recalling the visit of the choir to Rome in 1963, Francis Clarke gave me this press cutting from November 1987, recording a later visit. This was for the beatification of the 85 martyrs of England and Wales - and I recall it myself as a student in Rome. One of the Lay Clerks, Stephen Alder, pictured top right, still sings in the choir.

Most likely, the Choir's performance was the some of the best music ever heard at St Peter's.

er, that would be a young Stephen Alder, not Andrew, on the right of the picture...

John Tobin (bearded) next to Trevor Ling in the back row. Those boys now around 37 some with children of their own!

A music question not necessarily related to this picture: I was wondering how many (if any!) of the boy choristers return - twenty odd years or so later - to the cathedral choir as lay clerks?

Only one, to my knowledge; Nick Keay, a current lay clerk, was a chorster here.
