Palm Sunday 1919

Cardinal Bourne leads the Palm Sunday procession into the Cathedral, flanked by Monsignor Howlett, the Administrator, and Monsignor Browne, the sub-Administrator. In those days, before the construction of the Piazza, there was a roadway immediately in front of the Cathedral. In the background the troup of Boy Scouts known as 'the Cardinal's Own' can just be made out.

What a coincidence. Just the other day, I was reading a biography about the priest (later bishop)who built our church--Francis Clement Kelley. In it, there was mention of the friendship between him and Cardinal Bourne. (Kelley became the Bishop of Oklahoma in 1924.)
