The Feast of the Assumption

A beautiful display of flowers adorned the shrine of Our Lady of Westminster to mark yesterday's great feast.

The 14th century Nottingham alabaster is one of the great treasures of the Cathedral, and a precious link with the medieval catholic faith of our country.

Yesterday's 5.30 Mass was particuarly beautiful - Bishop Longely sings and preaches very well. And great to hear the organ during August! It is such a privilege to be able to worship at the Cathedral.

The image was enshrined in Westminster Cathedral as 'Our Lady of Westminster', in reference to the medieval shrine that used to exist at Westminster Abbey.
